Scope and Content Note
This collection consists of booklets, Christian register from "Gospel Proclamation", correspondence, dissertations, biographical information, and personal papers. Arranged alphabetically by subject, the collection date ranges from the 1840s through the 1900s. Also contains artwork, "What Our Savior Saw From the Cross." The original painting was by James Tissot; the print was donated by Doug Foster by J.M. Powell and was accrued into this collection.
James Marvin Powell served Churches of Christ as a minister, author, historian and college administrator. Married to Mildred Cliett Powell. Began preaching at Cedar Grove in Nashville, Tennessee in 1927. Served as a preacher for many congregations throughout the United States. Served from 1966-1969 as President of Ohio Valley College in Parkersburg, West Virginia.
