This collection contains the manuscript for Burton Coffman's memoirs. The collection is housed in 1 box.
James Burton Coffman was a prolific author, teacher, and preacher. He was born in Taylor Co., Tex. in 1905. He attended Abilene High School, and received his B.A. from Abilene Christian College in 1927. He began preaching as an associate minister in Wichita Falls, Tex. in 1930. He spent over 60 years preaching. 30 of these years were spent at two churches: Central Church of Christ in Houston, Tex. and Manhattan Church of Christ in New York City. He retired from preaching in 1971. After he retired, he began composing a line-by-line commentary of the Old and New Testaments. The commentary contains 37 volumes, and was published by ACU press in 1992. Coffman began composing his memoirs in 1990; these were never published.
The collection keeps the creator's original order. The manuscript is divided into chapters, which are ordered sequentially.
