Description
This paper explores the life and thought of Robertson L. Whiteside. Whiteside has been largely overlooked in the historiography of the twentieth century Churches of Christ. This paper seeks to remedy that neglect by providing an in depth overview of the life of Whiteside and an exploration of key themes in his theology. In the course of telling his story an attempt is made to show that Whiteside was far more than a man in the shadows. Rather, R. L. Whiteside was, in his own right, a major shaper of theology among American Churches of Christ. Following the survey of theological themes is a comprehensive bibliography of Whiteside's writing which will be of use to future scholars.
