Scope and Content Note

A collection of prayer meeting programs, sermons, and miscellaneous papers from Cecil Niel Wright. These papers include a lot of sermons from the 1930s.

Biographical Note

Cecil Niel Wright was born in 1908. He began his preaching career in 1929 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He attended Freed-Hardeman College and received a bachelor’s degree at Sam Houston State Teachers College in 1935. He also audited several Hebrew classes at Abilene Christian College and later attended Harding Graduate School of Religion. In 1934 he married Mary Donaldson and after her death he married Kathleen Davis Cantrall in 1979. Wright died in 1996.

Wright preached in Denver, Colorado; Chicago, Illinois; Los Angeles, California; Memphis, Tennessee; and Bethel Springs, Tennessee. He was a member of the Bible faculty at Freed-Hardeman College from 1967-78. He worked with several radio stations in Huntsville, Texas, Springfield, Missouri, Abilene Texas, and Denver, Colorado and spoke at conferences and lectureships in many states.

Wright was a prolific author, submitting articles for various publications including, but not limited to, Gospel Advocate, Firm Foundation, Christian Worker, 20th Century Christian, Power for Today, Voice of Freedom, Minister’s Monthly, and Spiritual Sword.
