These records include one box of materials from the Firm Foundation Publishing Company in Austin, Texas.
Biographical Note
Firm Foundation Publishing Company, Austin, Texas, was a major producer of printed literature for Churches of Christ in the late nineteenth and the whole of the twentieth century. Their flagship publication was the journal Firm Foundation (publication varied at times from bi-weekly to monthly). It served as a major forum for Biblical study and as a clearinghouse for news, information, and comment on the affairs among Churches of Christ. The company produced Sunday School literature and hymnals, thereby influencing the life of the churches. Under Reuel Lemmons’ editorship, the paper gained a definite voice in the promotion of global, trans-national and trans-cultural missions, the development of leadership within congregations, and as a major voice for the broad middle among Churches of Christ, particularly in the Southwestern United States.
Donor Note
Bob Hunter, who purchased these materials from an antique store in Austin, Texas. In legacy finding aids, these photographs were referred to as the Bob Hunter Collection.
Arrangement
Original order seems to have been maintained. The majority of photos are organized alphabetically by place, person, or college. 23 folders are included containing each letter of the alphabet (excepting Q, U, X, and Z) and adding a miscellaneous folder. Following the photos is a letter from Bob Hunter explaining his acquisition and various envelopes.
