Robert "Bob" Dean Hunter is a retired vice president at Abilene Christian University. He was born in 1928 in Dodge City, Kansas. In 1986 Hunter became the first Republican since the Reconstruction Era to represent Abilene, Texas, in the Texas Legislature, where he served until retiring in 2006 from the Texas House of Representatives. He represented District 71. Besides his earned baccalaureate degree and master's degree in business from ACU, Hunter has received honorary doctorates from Pepperdine University, Texas Wesleyan College, University of St. Thomas (Houston), and Hardin-Simmons University. Hunter and his wife Shirley Hunter have lived in Abilene, Texas, since 1956. Hunter Bob served the university in various administrative roles from 1956 until his first 1992 ACU "retirement," including leadership of the fund-raising and alumni relations areas. He has made significant contributions to ACU, including the creation of Sing Song in 1957. Sing Song now attracts thousands of alumni, parents and friends each year in February, and attracts participation from nearly 2,000 students. He has held the position of vice president, senior vice president emeritus, and various other roles on the campus of ACU. For his contributions to the university, the board voted to name the welcome center after Hunter and his wife. The Bob and Shirley Hunter welcome Center was opened in 2009.
Original order seems to have been maintained. The majority of photos are organized alphabetically by place, person, or college. 23 folders are included containing each letter of the alphabet (excepting Q, U, X, and Z) and adding a miscellaneous folder. Following the photos is a letter from Bob Hunter explaining his acquisition and various envelopes.
