Scope and Content Note

This collection contains sermons, radio sermons, personal papers, diaries, appointment calendars, church bulletins and newsletters, news clippings, financial documents, photos, and miscellaneous papers.

Biographical Note

Edward Dean Clutter was born in 1924 to Clarence and Margerie Baylis Clutter. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School and attended Abilene Christian College. After receiving his Bachelor's Degree from John Hopkins University in Baltimore, he did graduate level work at Wayne State University in Detroit. He was a veteran of World War II where he served with the U. S. Army.

Clutter was a former member of the Noon Rotary and hosted a church radio program in Rochester, New York. He had served with the Churches of Christ in Indiana and Ohio in the years of 1949-1954, Baltimore, Maryland from 1954-1960, Dearborn, Michigan from 1960-1963, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada from 1963-1969, and Tulsa, OK from 1969-1970. He and his wife, Ruth, fulfilled their lifelong dream and planted the Queensbury Church of Christ in Glens Falls, New York in 1970 ministering there until 1977. The Clutters then went to Rochester, New York from 1977-1993, Warren, Michigan from 1993-2003 and Coldwater Church of Christ in 1993. He had been the minister of the Coldwater Church of Christ since 1993 and was Chaplin at the prison in Coldwater for many years. He died in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 2007.
