Abstract

This research describes the cost of mental health counseling in four-year universities in Texas and compares this data to the costs at Abilene Christian University. The first part of this project describes the background and scope of the problem, followed by the research methods. The data collected and analyzed includes the cost of counseling at every four-year university in Texas. The data was further stratified by private versus public, and Christian versus secular categories. The results and discussion highlight the challenges of accessing mental health counseling for college students in Texas and the implications of the cost of sessions on students. A comparison of the cost of counseling at every university in Texas has not been published, so this research addresses the knowledge gap in this area and identifies best practices that universities should follow.
