Islay House, the family seat of Laird Walter Campbell of Shawfield (1741-1816)
Use photographs of locations on the Campbell family’s route from Ireland to Glasgow to develop geographical awareness in students of the Campbell family’s history and empathy for the difficulty of their journey.
Alexander Campbell, Islay House, Laird Walter Campbell, Isle of Islay
Islay House was the estate of the Laird Walter Campbell of Shawfield (1741-1816), who did much to develop the island. Laird Campbell took an interest in Alexander Campbell during the family’s stay in Bowmore and recovery from the shipwreck, and invited him to visit Islay House. The photograph looks north toward the house from the grounds.
