Abstract
Dr. John Young narrates from the perspective of a historian of Churches of Christ and a lifelong participant in Alabama schools and congregations. Young reflects on the challenging trends of decline in numbers and the aging of Churches of Christ and how some are responding to these challenges with new plants, evangelism, and creative rethinking of the ministry (as the professionalization trends may not be sustainable). Young discusses his congregational context, which although predominantly traditional in many ways is also diverse politically, culturally, and generationally.
