Abstract
Dr. John Mark Hicks narrates his story in Churches of Christ, first in Virginia and then in various academic communities. Dr. Hicks learned the ropes of traditional Churches of Christ theology and practice from an early age, completing his undergraduate education at Freed-Hardeman at the age of nineteen. Although Hicks hoped to be a missionary, both tragedy and opportunity steered him toward the academy. He taught at several colleges, including Harding University Graduate School of Religion in the 1990s and Lipscomb University throughout the twenty-first century. Hicks reflects on the books he published in the twenty-first century, all engaging the hermeneutical challenges facing Churches of Christ. He also explores major influences and developments in the twenty-first century.
