Biographical Note
Charles McKendree Neal was born in 1878. He was married twice. His first marriage was to Glenn Vanderpool. Glenn passed away giving birth to their first child in 1906. He married Anna Winifred Bottorff in 1908. In their marriage she bore six children to him. He entered Potter Bible College in Bowling Green, Kentucky, around 1906 or 1907, and finished his ministry studies in September 1909. He preached Linton, Indiana; Dugger, Indiana; Portland, Maine; and Winchester, Kentucky. In Winchester he preached for the Main Street Church of Christ until his retirement from full-time work in 1940. Neal was a dispensational premillennialist and his views on eschatology thrust him into national attention among the Churches of Christ. He held two debates with Texas preacher, Foy E. Wallace, Jr., who held to an amillennial view of the Kingdom. The first debate took place in Winchester, Kentucky, the latter in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The initial debate, for which the notes in this collection were prepared, was published as the Neal-Wallace Discussion by Gospel Advocate Company in 1933. In his latter years, Neal preached across the Midwest, the Great Plains, and as far south as Florida. He was affiliated with the Bible Truth Society and Biblical Research Society. He died in 1956 of uremic poisoning.
