Biographical Note
Central Church of Christ in Nashville, Tennessee was established in the 1920s as a church of Christ to serve and teach the downtown Nashville community. Early works of the church ranged from general benevolence efforts such as clothing and food drives, establishing the longest running Christian radio program in US history, providing free dental and other medical care to the poor, and even operating two supervised dormitory buildings for young men and women who had moved to the city in search of a better life. Today, the Central congregation continues to meet in the original building located in the heart of downtown Nashville. The Central radio program broadcasted a daily program Monday through Friday and twice on Sunday. The congregation maintained an active global ministry of teaching through correspondence courses along with a full-time benevolence ministry and a deaf ministry.
