Scope and Content Note

This collection contains the personal papers of Jim Mankin, including syllabi, course material, correspondence, assignments, awards (from the Disciples of Christ Historical Society and Harding Advising Council on Evangelism), Blue Ridge Encampment cassette tapes and other miscellaneous tapes, as well as three panoramic photos. The collection also contains certain professional papers of Jim Mankin including sermon outlines, ministerial records, schedule books, correspondence, conference papers, photographs, and ephemera. The collection also includes binders with class/teaching material from Jim Mankin, notebooks, newspaper clippings, photos, and various other materials. Also included are VHS tapes and cassette tapes, as well as frames of awards and various pictures. Included is a collection of the Amazing Grace lecture series on VHS and bound volumes of the Central Church of Christ’s Bulletin. This collection is an accrual of the two accession numbers R 2007.95 (previously MS #36) and R 2007.73. These accessions were put together in order to house all of Jim Mankin’s materials in one collection. During this process, the collection was condensed; books, periodicals, pamphlets, tracts, and some cassette tapes were removed from the collection and processed appropriately.

Biographical Note

Jim Mankin was a preacher and professor. He graduated from David Lipscomb College in 1958, received an M.C.E. from Emory University in 1960, and received a D.Min. from Fuller Theological Seminary in 1987. Before joining the Bible faculty at Abilene Christian University, he served as a full-time preacher for several churches in Tennessee. At ACU, he taught undergraduate Bible and served as the chair of the Undergraduate Bible and Ministry department. In 1983, he began serving as director of the Blue Ridge Encampment in Ashville, N.C.
