Scope and Content Note

Collection includes fragile glass materials. This is a collection of bible correspondence course lessons, Pal Springs Drive Church of Christ bulletins, radio sermons, gospel meeting records, sermon outlines, slides of churches, preachers and information slides about boys meeting, dating and marrying girls, photos of churches and audio of sermons. Glass slides are included that Forrest Waldrop made himself. The slides include images that are categorized under the following headings: Alexander Campbell's Home, Charts and ACC Advertisements, Chruches throughout the United States (mainly Texas), The Fish Net, Forrest Lawn, M.D., Mars Hill Bible School, September, 1962, Miscellaeous, Pepperdine College, L.A., Preachers, Boy Meets Girl, Boy Dates Girl, and Boy Marries Girl. His son, Don Waldrop, has digitized the entire collection of slides housed in Special Collections. The collection also came with a number of books from Waldrop's personal library. The books that Special Collections kept are housed with the larger collection. However, these books are marked as a gift from Forrest Waldrop in the catalog for easy access. Please note, as of 4/14/14, box 10 is currently housed at the front of shelf 4A. It will be moved to the proper space when we begin shifting.

Biographical Note

Forrest R. Waldrop was born in 1908 in Comanche, Texas. He graduated from Shawnee, Oklahoma high School in 1926. He graduated from Abilene Christian College in 1933. He married Madelyn Ricks in 1951 in Greenwood, LA. She preceded him in death on April 19, 1992. Mr. Waldrop was a Church of Christ minister, working in Texas, Oklahoma, California and New Mexico. From 1952 to 1970 he was Safety Engineer for Thiokol Chemical company of Karnack, TX. Waldrop was the supervisor for the Commodity District Program in Marshall from 1970 to 1974 and worked for the Sullivan Funeral Home from 1974 to 1985. He died in 2001.
