Scope and Content Note
This collection contains some of the personal and professional papers of Dr. Leroy Garrett. Materials include Correspondence, financial documents, legal documents, photographs and personal literary productions. The collection is housed in 27 boxes.
Biographical Note
Leroy Garrett (1918-2015) was a Biblical scholar, historian and prolific writer and critic among Churches of Christ. He is perhaps best known for his book-length history of the Stone-Campbell Movement, the title of which popularized the use of the term ‘Stone-Campbell Movement’ as a short-hand description. He was also a long-time editor of the Restoration Review. Dr. Garrett attended Abilene Christian University, Princeton Seminary, and Harvard University (Ph.D.). He taught at MacMurry College (Illinois), Bethany College (West Virginia), Texas Women's University (Denton, Texas) and Bishop College (Dallas, Texas).
