Scope and Content Note

The material is organized in two series. The first series consists of records regarding census information for the 1980s. The second series compiles records for the 1990s. Box series contain information regarding the formatting of congregations and their history, such as year of establishment, the number of attendees, contributions received, directories, and maps depicting the location of a variety of churches. Moreover, each box contains ministry and mission bulletins, restoration reports, newspaper and magazine clippings, correspondence, and term papers written by Dr. Lynn's students explaining the history of the development of several Churches of Christ.

Biographical Note

Joe Mac Lynn was born in Union City, Tennessee, 21 April 1934, and obtained his training at David Lipscomb College, Morehead State College, Harding Graduate School of Religion, and San Francisco Theological Seminary. Dr. Lynn was a professor at Harding Graduate School of Religion, David Lipscomb University, and served as a preacher in several churches. Additionally, he had a great interest in the status of Churches of Christ around the nation, and because of this he collaborated with others to conduct a nation-wide census during the 1980s and 1990s.

Arrangement

The collection is arranged in three series: Series I- 1980s, Series II-1990s, Series III- World Information. The collection retains the creator's original arrangement in chronological and alphabetical order by state.
