Biographical Note

The following biographical note is excerpted from Vinzant’s obituary on findagrave.com:

“Gospel preacher and former Brazil missionary. Don Eugene Vinzant was born in Ft. Worth, TX, on June 21, 1936, and passed away on March 10, 2011. Don graduated from Northside H.S. in Ft. Worth and Abilene Christian College. In college, Don met the love of his life, Carol Jean Mitchell, when he threw a cherry bomb at her feet. They married on September 10, 1956. Between 1955 and 1961, Don ministered at the Welcome Valley Church of Christ in Stephenville, and churches in Winnie and Lamesa, TX. In 1961, Don and Carol, and sons, Larry and Danny, sailed to Brazil with 12 other families to become missionaries in Sao Paulo. Two more children were born in Brazil: a third son, Gene, and a daughter, Caroline. The Vinzants worked in Brazil for 12 years. In 1973 the Vinzants moved to Oklahoma City to preach at the Village (now Quail Springs) Church of Christ. In 1976, they moved to Austin, TX, to work at the Northside (now Hyde Park) Church of Christ. While there, Don earned his Doctor of Ministry. In 1981, they moved to Granbury, TX, where he was pulpit minister. In 1989, they moved to Edmond, OK, to teach Bible at Oklahoma Christian University and work as an associate minister at the Edmond Church of Christ. In 1997, Don was named Pulpit Minister at the Edmond Church.”
