Scope and Content Note
Large pulpit Bible and ledger book from the New Salem congregation. Pulpit Bible was a gift of the publishers of the American Christian Review as a premium for a group subscription; they ledger book covers the dates ca. 1890-1950. Additionally, includes a wedding gift book for Timothy Edward Walker and Glenda Faye Spain, which includes a genealoogy connecting Walker to the Showalters.
Biographical Note
The New Salem Church of Christ was established on the farm of J. T. Showalter near Snowville, VA as a result of a division in the local Christian Church concerning instrumental music, ca. late 1880s. This ledger accounts for the membership of the acapella congregation, led by various members of the Showalter family.
