Scope and Content Note

These papers include Herbert Ray Patterson’s sermons and assorted notes.

Biographical Note

Herbert Ray “H. R.” Patterson was born in Flat Creek, Tennessee, on 3 June 1873 to William Newton Patterson and Sarah Ann Pollock Patterson. He was one of seven children. He married Ruthie Sawyer in 1901 and the couple had two sons, Elmer and John. H. R. farmed and preached throughout his life and died on February 7, 1959. The Center for Restoration Studies also houses the papers of his nephew, Noble Festus Patterson, Jr. Papers, CRS MS#465 and son, Elmer and Betsy Patterson Papers, CRS MS#68.
