Scope and Content Note

These papers include correspondence, legal documents, and other print materials from Luther Doniphan Burrus’ life and legal career. Burrus litigated several cases between Christian Churches and state agencies of the Disciples of Christ in the years preceding Restructure.

Biographical Note

Luther Doniphan Burrus was born to Luther and Maupin Burrus on 22 January 1921 in Richmond, Kentucky. He served in World War II and in 1943 he married Anna Belle Prather (1919-1996). The couple lived in Kentucky where Luther worked as an attorney and they were active in the Lyndon Christian Church.
