Scope and Content Note
Papers from Luther Alvin Marsh and Jean (Crawford) Marsh related to their time in high school and college, as well as time working as a professor at ACU. Items include diplomas, photographs, graduation booklets, academic writings/theses, church directories, awards/plates, one small Bible, copies of The Optimist (1940s), correspondence.
Biographical Note
The following biographical note is excerpted from the obituary of Luther Alvin Marsh: “Born in Lebanon, Tennessee, Dr. Marsh was the son of William Wallace Marsh and Grace Jones Marsh. He attended schools in Tennessee and Texas, and graduated from Conroe High School, where he was salutatorian of the class of 1943. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1944 to 1946. He completed his undergraduate degree from ACU in 1948. In 1950, he married Jean Crawford. They both taught in public schools, first at Burnet and then at Amarillo. He pursued graduate studies in psychology at the University of Texas, earning a master's degree in 1953 and his doctorate in 1975. Dr. Marsh was employed for 35 years at ACU, where he served in various faculty and staff positions, including professor of psychology and director of testing. He also served the West Texas Rehabilitation Center in Abilene as the part-time chief of psychological services from 1971 to 1983. He was a deacon of the University Church of Christ for more than 45 years.”
