Scope and Content Note
Collection contains drafts and manuscripts of articles and books published by Daniel Sommer. It is likely that some of these materials also reflect his preaching and speaking. The bulk appears to date from the early twentieth century.
Biographical Note
Daniel Sommer was one the leading evangelists and editors among Churches of Christ in his lifetime. Educated at Bethany College, Sommer moved among northern Disciples of Christ from the Ohio Valley across the midwest. He, along with his wife Katharine and children Bessie, Daniel Austin, and Allen, maintained an active editing, writing, and publishing career. Through their writing in American Christian Review, Octographic Review, Apostolic Review, Macedonian Call, and others, they bridged the century between Alexander Campbell to Benjamin Franklin and John F. Rowe and his son F. L. Rowe to Carl Ketcherside.
