Scope and Content Note
This collection contains one box of One-Cup Churches of Christ materials. The majority of these materials are slides with educational information. Various tracts and publications that arrived with this collection have been separated for cataloging.
Biographical Note
‘One-cup’ Churches of Christ is a short-hand way to describe those congregations which use only one container for the drink element in the Lord’s Supper. Some of these congregations use wine; most use unfermented grape juice. Correspondingly, most use a single loaf of unleavened bread. Each participant breaks from the one loaf, and drinks from the one cup, as they partake of the Lord’s Supper. This position is one of conviction, not preference, and these congregations preserve the older and wide practice as it prevailed across the Stone-Campbell Movement (and beyond) prior to the advent of individual communion services in the early twentieth century.
