Comments

When Alexander Campbell was a school boy, Thomas Campbell relocated the family from Sheepbridge to Market Hill, where Thomas taught school and ministered to Seceder congregations. His character and piety came to the attention of the Governor, Lord Gosford, who invited Thomas to become tutor to the Gosford children, living with a large salary in a residence on the estate. Thomas declined the invitation, fearing the influence of the lifestyle of the nobility upon the Campbell children. (Richardson, 1868, vol. 1, p. 43.)
