Caption
John T. Johnson joined Stone as co-editor of the Christian Messenger in 1832. From a prominent Kentucky family, Johnson had served two terms in the U.S. Congress before becoming a minister. His brother Robert M. Johnson was vice-president under Martin Van Buren.
