Abstract
When we read the poetry of Israel it is like looking into a mirror. We see that living under the rule of God sets us apart from those who oppose God, and yet our righteousness pales when we encounter God of perfect righteousness. We draw back in fear, but cry out in hope - and our hope is not misplaced. Crying to God is not an encounter with the dull ears of night; it is an experience of being heard, forgiven and lifted from the depths.
