Abstract
Is God really with us in any way that matters when we can't see any miracles in life? Is God with us in times of tragedy? Since miracles have always been rather rare, even in biblical times, how does God act in our world when axe heads don't float, the blind stay blind, and the lame still need wheelchairs? By looking at the lives of Ruth and Esther we will see God's sovereignty working behind the scenes from the peasant's shack to the palace suite and find parallels in contemporary life.
