Abstract
In 1809, Thomas Campbell produced a document that has cast a long shadow over the Stone-Campbell Movement. He proposed the theme "the quest for Christian unity, peace, and purity." We will comment upon the literary composition and religious soils of this influential agenda, especially in Pennsylvania and Ireland, as reflected in recent literature; the role of scripture and its interpretation in accomplishing Campbell's goals; the eschatalogical unfolding of his vision; and important theological assumptions.
