Description
Remember the eraser-less pencils that were in the pew… the golf pencils? When I was a young boy, I decided that I was going to abscond with one. During the closing prayer when I knew everyone’s eyes were closed, I reached down and grabbed one and put it in my pocket. I don’t know why you’d want a golf pencil, but I guess it was just something that I thought I needed to have. I don’t remember if it was one of my older siblings or if it was mom sitting next to me that saw me do it, but boy as soon as that final “amen” happened I learned that you don’t take pencils from the church. There was no whipping involved or anything… but I definitely had to put it back and I had to endure a small, firm “sermonette” on trust, on stealing, and “remember that this is God’s House.”
