Abstract

The purpose of this study is to revise the content of the 101 New Member Seminar at the Oak Hills Church of Christ. The project includes the presentation of the new seminar to a typical group of prospective members and the evaluation of the effectiveness of the seminar in assisting newcomers to feel a part of the community at Oak Hills. The previous materials were based on the purpose-driven church model that is no longer being used at Oak Hills. In addition, the growing number of newcomers from religious backgrounds other than the Churches of Christ needed to be addressed more directly in the orientation seminar. This group had significant questions about the distinctiveness, origins, and history of Churches of Christ. The revised materials need to address these questions and concerns.
