Biographical Note
John Franklin Wolfe worked most of his adult life, beginning in the late 1930s, establishing Mexican Churches of Christ in the United States and in Mexico. He helped to begin Churches of Christ in Mexico in the cities of Cuidad Juarez, Chihuahua, Matamoros, San Fernando, Jiminez, Valle Hermoso, and Torreon. He did most of his work from the US boarder towns of El Paso, Brownsville, and began and worked with Mexican Churches of Christ in San Antonio, Texas and Los Angeles, California.
Wolfe edited and published The Latin American Christian which was sent monthly to Spanish speaking preachers all over North, Central, and South America. It was geared to help Church of Christ preachers know how to better teach Catholics. Wolfe spoke at the Pan American Conferences and taught seminars at the Baxter Institute in Honduras. He worked with Pedro Rivas, David Cardenas, Harris Goodwin, and Mack Kercheville. With the help of these men, Wolfe began over 100 churches in Mexico.
Wolfe attended Abilene Christian College, George Pepperdine College, and the University of Mexico. He was first married to Lois Bedichek who died of tuberculosis, and then married again to Elizabeth Kirby with whom he had three children. Wolfe died in 1987 from cancer.
